Meet Oakley!

Poor Oakley. He was picked up as a stray in a rural part of Virginia during the dead of winter. He has very little fur on him and is basically just skin and bones. Oakley spent two months at the high kill shelter before Homeward Trails rescued him. Oakley needs a lot of help though. He has some scars on his face and body that imply he's been through a scrape or two.

He is very gentle around people, loves other dogs and even passed a cat test with flying colors. Oakley loves to ride in the car, takes food from a person's hand gently and is grateful for any love that one might be able to give him. He is super smart and learned about housetraining within 24 hours of living at his foster home.

His foster mom thinks that he would be a good dog for someone who doesn't have other dogs living in the home. Poor Oakley is still very afraid that he might not get another meal and so he doesn't like to share his dinner with the other dog residents in the home. Who can blame him? Afterall, he spent some time on his own and wasn't sure if he'd get another meal, or even a crumb to fill his empty tummy.

Please consider adopting Oakley. If you can't, please consider sponsoring him. He's been through a really rough spot in life and his tail is kind of infected right now. He could need to get it amputated, if it doesn't heal with antibiotics very soon. Both HT and Oakley are hoping that doesn't have to happen.
